Teaching Through The OT Effectively With A Bible Timeline Chart

In our Sunday Bible class some years ago, a lady who had been a Christian and laboured in the Church for many years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not talking about the pre-Moses law) I wonder just how many Christians will actually pick up the error in this assertion. Moses lived some 500 years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since made up a Bible timeline and shown more visually the dating of people and occasions.

Some years ago, I was speaking on the resurrection, death, life and burial of Christ Jesus, and a retired minister and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been a minister for 40 years, came up and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he noted 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I had been saying anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he answered"No". I continued to describe that in the case of that particular Scripture, it was not referring to examining Scripture but to the false teaching and school of thought of Gnosticism, but he wouldn't accept it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year minister & laborer in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that possibly half the books of the New Testament relate to?
How can he study and teach the Bible in fullness without being aware of a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to understand these things and be in a position to understand their Bible properly, if they're not informed?
Let's us as teachers and preachers stitch together the fragments of the Bible and God's plan into a complete picture that our people can draw on for the rest of their lives, helping them to understand God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better translate the Bible to order our lives by.
It's not difficult to do, and it is not boring if we're ready to put in a bit of effort prayer and fervor, and just possibly you can use a Bible Timeline as well.
